Name: Jane Tanti

Position title: Cruise Executive

Company name: Travel Counsellors

When and why did you join the industry?

My first job in the travel industry was with Ansett Airlines – the opportunity to travel and discover Australia was the main incentive.

What do you like most about your job?

I absolutely love the opportunity to work with all the cruise lines to promote cruising through the Travel Counsellors network.

What’s one of the biggest achievements of your career so far?

Whilst at Cunard Line, I was instrumental in chartering one of their ships – the ‘Caronia’ – to the Sigma Corporation.

What’s the best advice ever given to you and who gave it?

Many years ago Jackie Foggitt, the CEO of Cunard in Australia at the time, gave this advice – always answer calls, emails and queries as soon as possible, as this will give you a reputation for reliability.

Who do you admire and see as a role model in the industry?

I really admire Karen Christensen – from when I first met in her role at ICCA, she has progressed to become the head of Silversea in Australia, and is now running Crystal Cruises in Australia. She is a very dynamic and knowledgeable woman, who always has the time to catch up for a chat.

What can people expect from your company and what sets it apart from the rest?

Travel Counsellors is a fantastic travel company offering personal service to their clients. They really go the extra mile to ensure their clients are happy.

What destinations are on your travel bucket list?

I have been lucky to do a lot of travelling and cruises throughout my career – however, I have never been to New York and would love to visit and spend Christmas there.

What’s a memorable travel experience you’ve had (good or bad)?

Cruising up the Irrawaddy River into Yangon with the golden Shwedagon Pagoda sparkling in the sunlight is hard to beat.

What are three things you always take with you when travelling?

I love shopping in different countries so my passport, credit cards and a suitcase big enough to bring home all my purchases is a definite requirement.

Name someone famous you’d like to travel with and a destination you’d like to go with them.

I have been watching Joanna Lumley on TV as she travelled through Japan – that would be a fantastic trip with a fun companion!

What direction do you see the industry heading in over the next five to ten years?

The only way to go for the cruise industry is up, as more Australians discover what a fantastic holiday experience it is.
