Cebu City is the oldest and second biggest city in the Philippines after Metro Manila. It was also the first capital of the country. The main are gateway is through the Mactan–Cebu International Airport, located on Mactan Island, the second busiest airport in the Philippines. From the airport to Cebu City takes anything between 30 to 40 minutes per way depending on traffic.

ETB Travel News had recently been part of the Cebu Pacific www.cebupacificair.com/en-au media familiarisation trip from Melbourne to Cebu via an overnight stay in Manila. On 14 August 2018, the Philippines’ leading carrier, Cebu Pacific, launched its second destination in Australia. Cebu Pacific flies direct between Melbourne and Manila three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The airlines first started direct flights from Sydney to Manila in 2014. Cebu Pacific is the only low-cost carrier flying directly between Australia and the Philippines.

Cebu Pacific low-cost carrier offers great value for money airfares from Australia to Manila. Service on board with the crew reflects their bright coloured uniforms where there were a lot of genuine smiles and a real sense of fun. We even had quiz games played on board as part of the entertainment by the crew! The selection and food quality onboard were good. The general comfort of the seats was also good and is on par with lost cost carrier standard in terms of pitch and width.

Our amazing journey had us arrive in Manila after a seven and half hour flight and were hosted by The Peninsula Manila www.peninsula.com/en/manila/5-star-luxury-hotel-makati one of Manila’s famous five star hotel where we stayed for a few hours of rest before our early morning pick and transfer for our flight to Cebu.

Arriving in Mactan–Cebu International Airport, we were greeted by a welcome troupe in full traditional regalia from the Tourism Promotions Board Philippines www.tpb.gov.ph an attached agency of the Department of Tourism. Enroute to our hotel we had our first local foodie experience by having the Philippines famous roasted pig ‘lechon’ lunch at a local restaurant. A ‘Must Try!’ dish when in Cebu!
