New contract with Victorian Government boosts services and Victorian jobs

SkyBus’ world-class fast, frequent, friendly and affordable airport transit services will be running more often on its growing number of routes from suburbs around Melbourne with an order for 15 new, locally-built buses.

Following an announcement by the Victorian Government, the new order for modern Wifi and USB power equipped buses, with local south-east manufacturer Volgren, will ensure more Victorians have more options for getting to and from Melbourne’s airports affordably.

“SkyBus is responding to increased growth and demand by maintaining a modern fleet of buses and adding more routes to suburbs and key regional hubs across Victoria,” CEO Adam Begg said.

“These 15 new Volgren busses will make a significant contribution to our fully Australian-made fleet, and an even more important contribution to creating jobs and opportunities in Melbourne’s industrial heartland here in the south east.

Mr Begg said the new government contract would also see Skybus expand its services to by boosting frequency and improving outer urban connectivity to airports.

“SkyBus is agile and can go where Victoria’s growth is, expanding services and providing a vital link to Victoria’s airports to those communities who need it most. Our 400 staff are committed to getting on with the job of providing an excellent airport transit experience for almost four million Victorians every year,” Mr Begg said.
