Jingeri – greetings in Yugambeh language
With the #GC2018 coming to a close this weekend, the Games Village still has a strong energy among athletes and Games Shapers. A good mix of pride for all achievements (and some relief as well!) and excitement as the big Closing Ceremony party is just 1 sleep away!
I had a shared moment with history yesterday as I had the privileged opportunity to carry the Queen’s Baton at the village!
The Queen’s Baton carried a message from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II that called the Commonwealth’s athletes to come together in peaceful and friendly competition. The GC2018 Relay was the longest and the most accessible ever, not just passing through, but spending quality time in each community it visits. The amazing journey began on 13 March 2017 at Buckingham Palace, the Baton had traveled on an epic 388-day journey through all nations and territories of the Commonwealth. The Queen’s Baton arrived on the Gold Coast for the XXI Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018, where Her Majesty’s representative Prince Charles of Wales, removed the message from the Baton and read it aloud to officially open the Games.
I would also like to make special mention to all my colleagues in the Village Communication Centre for which I’ve shared an amazing time (and laughs!) with and made many memorable experiences. With just a few more days to go, I’m sure the best times is still to come!
