Look who has volunteered for the GC2018

ETB Travel News is proud to have one of their Partnership Managers, Jeremy Lai, to be selected as a Games Shaper for the #GC2018, 21st Commonwealth Games to be held in Queensland, Australia from 4 – 15 April 2018. Majority of the venues are on the Gold Coast with other venues located in Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns.

The Gold Coast is ready to welcome more than 670,000 visitors. Its expected that 1.5 billion people will be watching the Games from around the world.

More than 6600 athletes and officials from 71 Commonwealth nations and territories will take part in 11 days of competition. All athletes and team officials will be accommodated at the Commonwealth Games Village, which consists of 1200 apartments across 30 buildings.

Jeremy’s journey started on the 6th July 2017 when he was invited to interview for a role in ‘Village Operations’. On 1st August 2017 he received his Volunteer Offer and became one of the selected Games Shapers. There were 47,000 applications for the 15,000 volunteer positions. The 15,000 Games Shapers range from 16 years old to 92 years old. Jeremy will volunteer a total of 11 days over the period of the Games.

On his 1st shift, he was able to experience first hand, the full operations of the Games Village with some of the athlete’s arrivals for preparations before the Games. He also met with more of his other fellow Games Shapers and settled into his role as a member of the communications team. He looks forward to his next shifts and being part of the team as the host country to the other Commonwealth countries.
