Geoff McGeary awarded Old Haileyburians Association Medal

Geoff McGeary’s outstanding contribution to the travel industry and greater community has once again been recognised, as he was awarded the prestigious Old Haileyburians Association (OHA) Medal from his former school.

The Old Haileyburians Association Medal is awarded to an Old Haileyburian in recognition and appreciation of exceptional achievement to the community beyond expectation in their field of endeavour. Given that there are now in excess of 16,000 members of the OHA and the award is only in its tenth year, to be awarded this medal is a major achievement in one’s life.

In a small-world turn of events, the OHA Medal was originally initiated in 2007, by Jamie Harris, a fellow Haileybury alumni and former OHA President, who currently works for APT. “It was a proud moment on both levels; to be celebrating the awards tenth anniversary and to see Geoff, the owner of the company I work for receive the award. It is a tremendous achievement.” said Harris.

The McGeary-Haileybury connection dates back to the early 1950’s when Geoff’s father provided the school buses. The association continued with Geoff attending until his graduation in 1959, followed by his son Robert and his three grandsons attending Haileybury
as third generation students.

Geoff has endeavoured for a lifetime dedicated to tourism and giving back to the community, locally and abroad. Resulting in being awarded the Order of Australia Medal and being honoured as an Australian Tourism Legend at the Australian Tourism Awards.
