A face lift for the Beatles Old Stomping Ground
The Beatles held a party at Royal Lancaster London hotel in London in 1967 to preview their new movie ‘Magical Mystery Tour’. They used to frequent the bar at the hotel, said a concierge from the hotel. After all, it is in close proximity to the Beatles London recording studio, Abbey Road Studios. The recent extensive £80 million pound refurbishment, has elevated the hotel back to its “royal” status. This total renovation spared no expense as demonstrated by the magnificent results. With its understated elegance this hotel is a true gem and won’t disappoint.
From the warm greeting in the chic white marble lobby, one knows that this is going to be a special place. With 411 guest rooms and suites, the decor is trendy, with calming, subtle colors and soft touches throughout. A blend of mid-century design and contemporary luxury are the hallmarks.
The location of Royal Lancaster London is ideal, across the street from Hyde Park and a mere 12 minute walk to Marble Arch and the busy shopping of Oxford Street. On weekends, take a lovely stroll through Portobello Market or walk to the West End. Lancaster Gate tube station is literally underneath the hotel. By Heathrow Express, this property was remarkably only 20 minutes from the airport.
A View with a Room
Our room had a captivating view of the greenery of Hyde Park, the London Eye, the Shard, and across London, which captivated our attention as day turned to night. Be prepared to spend long periods of time just staring out the window.
The state of the art technology includes a ‘Handy’ smartphone with 4G that offers free international calls for use either in the hotel or from outside. The bedside-controlled modesty and blackout blinds for day and evening, the one touch lighting by the bed, and the massive wall mounted smart television contribute to a sense of the uber modern. There’s even a work desk with built-in USB hubs.
The modern bathroom was decorated in white marble, with an oversized bathtub, waterfall shower, underfloor heating and best of all heated towel racks. The bed was extremely comfortable with heavenly soft bed linens.

The hotel has 2 excellent dining choices, including the Island Grill, with a great view of Hyde Park, where the catch of the day is always a reliable option. The Island Grill offers panoramic views and contemporary, sustainable British cuisine.
Nipa Thai, an award winning restaurant, offers authentic Thai food, as tasty as the best of Thailand. This restaurant gets high marks for creative presentation and bold, spicy flavors. Try the mango salad and the curry chicken with lemongrass. Let’s not forget the hotel’s Hyde Lobby Bar which is perfect for a light bite or a late-night drink. Plenty of charming bars and pubs are very close at hand in beautiful Bayswater.
