Two Donkeys Brisbane introduces old-school
The team at Novotel Brisbane’s Two Donkeys cafe have introduced a fun take on sustainability, giving customers the opportunity to enjoy their coffee in an old school ceramic ‘ugly mug’ instead of a takeaway coffee cup.
It is almost impossible to source a 100 percent biodegradable coffee cup, with many plastic lined cups taking up to 30 years to breakdown in landfill. In an effort to reduce waste, Two Donkeys is encouraging customers to swap their disposable takeaway cups for one of the café’s signature ‘Ugly Mugs’.
The team at Two Donkeys have scoured countless local charity shops in search for the very best novelty and nanna mugs to match their ‘Ugly Mug’ moniker. Customers can bring their mug back the next day and swap it for another gem or simply add it to their collection at home.
Not only is the new initiative great for the environment, customers will also be rewarded with 50cents off the cost of their coffee when they opt for an ugly mug instead of a takeaway cup. Regulars are also encouraged to bring their own favourite mug from home which they can keep at the café for the team to use when they return.
Kate Staraj, General Manager at Novotel Brisbane, said that both locals and hotel guests are excited by the new ‘Ugly Mugs’ initiative.
“Our ‘Ugly Mugs’ help make sustainability a fun talking point amongst staff and customer. Plus the added bonus of a 50cent discount as you do your bit to help the environment makes the concept even more rewarding,” she said.
